JABLANAC

JABLANAC, a village and ferry pier on the coast of the Velebit Channel, in the back of a deeply indented cove, opposite of the island of Rab. It is located between the coves of Stara Vlaka and Smokovaca. Stara Vlaka was known as the place from where wood was drawn to the sea, while the cove of Mala Stinica (8-18 m deep) shelters a harbour with a wharf and a small pier. South of Jablanac is an interesting bay called Zavratnica, a popular tourist destination. The area around Jablanac abounds in banks and submarine freshwater springs and is therefore the habitat of various fish species (sea basses). Economy is based on farming and fishing. In Jablanac is also the ferry port for the island of Rab.
